Dual-System Legal Expertise

Two legal systems. Two sets of terminology. One team that handles both.

UAE Civil Law — Dubai Courts

Dubai Courts, Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, and Federal Courts operate under the UAE Civil Law system derived from Egyptian and French civil codes. Proceedings are conducted in Arabic.

  • Criminal proceedings and prosecutions
  • Civil disputes and commercial litigation
  • Family and personal status courts
  • Labour disputes and employment tribunals

Common Law — DIFC & ADGM

DIFC Courts and ADGM Courts operate under Common Law (English law). Proceedings are conducted in English with distinct procedural vocabulary.

  • Commercial and civil claims
  • International arbitration
  • Enforcement of foreign judgments
  • Wills and probate (DIFC)

What Happens During a Court Interpretation

01. Pre-Session Briefing

Interpreter reviews case summary, charges, and key terminology. Meets with client or legal counsel to clarify expected proceedings.

02. Sworn Oath

Interpreter presents MOJ credentials to the judge and takes an oath to interpret faithfully and accurately, without addition or omission.

03. Live Interpretation

Consecutive interpretation during proceedings. The interpreter renders each statement with precision, requesting clarification when needed.

04. Post-Session Review

Interpreter confirms all key statements were accurately rendered. Flags any terminology that requires written clarification for the record.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a certified interpreter for Dubai Courts?
Yes. Dubai Courts require MOJ-certified interpreters for all proceedings involving non-Arabic speakers. The interpreter must be sworn before the court and interpretation is rendered under oath.
What is the difference between DIFC and Dubai Courts interpretation?
DIFC Courts operate under Common Law (English), while Dubai Courts follow UAE Civil Law (Arabic). The legal terminology, procedural language, and interpretation approach differ significantly between the two systems. Our interpreters are trained in both.
Can you provide interpreters for police investigations?
Yes. We provide sworn interpreters for police statements, CID investigations, and prosecution interviews across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Why is consecutive interpretation used in court?
Courts mandate consecutive interpretation for sworn testimony because it allows for maximum precision. The speaker pauses after each statement, giving the interpreter time to render an exact translation that becomes part of the legal record.
Do you cover arbitration proceedings?
Yes. We provide interpreters for DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, ICC, and ad-hoc arbitration proceedings in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Both simultaneous (for hearings) and consecutive (for witness testimony) modes are available.
How far in advance should I book a court interpreter?
We recommend at least 48 hours for standard court dates. Emergency same-day bookings are available but subject to interpreter availability for your specific language pair.
What languages are available for court interpretation?
We cover 75+ language pairs. Arabic-English is our most common court language pair, but we regularly provide Arabic-French, Arabic-Urdu, Arabic-Chinese, Arabic-Russian, and many others.
Is the interpreter's identity disclosed to the court?
Yes. The interpreter's MOJ license number and credentials are presented to the judge, and the interpreter takes an oath before rendering interpretation. This is a legal requirement in UAE courts.
